It’s 2016, to the women that love sports we are called Sports Divas. Sports divas are the coolest, competitive and most fierce woman you will ever meet. How do I know? Well I am a sports diva too. I started playing sports at the very young age of five. My mom took me to my first St. Louis Cardinals game around the same time if not earlier. Oh by the way, my mom is a sports diva too. She has taught me all the rules for baseball, basketball, football and hockey. I use to play soccer, basketball, softball and volleyball. I am very competitive at everything I do and I always put my all into whatever I do. Then why do we sometimes still catch crap from men?
All the sports divas have different reasons we love sports and how it impacts us. My reason was at first was to stay out of trouble since I didn’t live in the greatest neighborhood growing up. The impact it has on me it has taught me to never back down from anything. It doesn’t matter if you lose as long it you put your all in to try to win. I decided to ask other women their opinion.
The first person I asked was my friend Kim Dunning who also is a, sports diva, how sports impacted her life. She said “Sports has impacted my life to always think outside the box. That what is in front of me isn’t always the way things really are. It has taught me to keep learning and keep reading to educate myself further. It also gave me a creative outlet to be able to blog with an educated opinion not just because players are attractive.” She also told how she got into sports. She said “Sports for me has always been a distraction from real life stress. At first it became a way for me to wind down from a high pressured school schedule.”
The next sports diva I questioned was Tay Holloway. Which by the way has her own sports talk show called Sports Elite Talk2Me Sports radio, which her and Brandon Thomas talk sports every Thursday night. She told me why she likes sports she said “Honestly I like sports because of the competitive person I am.” She also told me how sports have impacted her life. She said “Sports impact my life because that’s all I watch on television or the Internet. I don’t need HBO, etc. Just give me all sports channels and my life is set.”
This blog wouldn’t be complete if I didn’t interview Stacy Theesen. She is one of the biggest football sports divas I know. (And that is saying a lot). She told me “First I’m really only a diehard football fan, used to love boxing back in the Tyson days. What I love about sports is, the competitiveness, LOVE the trash talk that comes with each fan base, the atmosphere when you go to a game! The impact on my life I have met some seriously great people from going to games and being in sports pages.”
We have a lot of male friends and we all talk sports to each other. We can debate for hours if anyone allows us over one subject but turns into like five subjects but tied back to the first subject. I know I am not the only female that gets tested by a random stranger in a group or at a bar about our knowledge of the game. I guess they just see a pretty face and don’t expect any of us to know the difference between man to man or zone defense or the difference between a field goal or extra point kick. The one that laugh at the most “who was your quarterback before Romo?” The best part is when we answer the random questions and he has that dumbfounded look on his face like I didn’t think she would know the answer. Please don’t test sports divas if you know what is best for you.
In conclusion, yes sports divas know that sports are a man’s world. Just give it more time it will be a sports divas world as well. We will be taking over if you men like it or not.
